Effective Fire Department Training Ideas

By Juana Buchanan

Being a firefighter is a very tough job that would require a lot of training. If one would want to become a fireman, then not only must he be physically fit, but he also has to be physically strong, mentally alert, mobile, and very agile in order to handle emergency situations. It is for this reason that the veteran firefighters must always think of good fire department training ideas so that they can train the newbies to become the next batch of heroes.

Of course before one would begin any sort of training, he has to make sure that he is actually fit with regard to his physique. This means that he has to have really good stamina and strength in order to attend to emergencies. It is for this reason that the first part of each session would be body workouts and cardiovascular exercises.

Now if one is able to complete the fitness exercises, then the next thing that he would concentrate on would be putting on the gear. Now if one is a firefighter, he will have to dress up in his uniform as fast as he can. The senior trainers will be timing how fast the juniors can put on their uniforms when they hear the alarm.

Now aside from this type of exercise, they will also be timed on how long they take to slide down the pole and get the equipment. The senior trainers will also be timing how long they will take here. The juniors will have to be able to have everything ready in just a few minutes so that they can take off.

Of course they also have to properly know how to handle the equipment. The most important equipment to think about would be none other than the hose. The firefighters have to learn how to attach two long hoses together and attach the end of the hose to a hydrant really fast.

Now if the newbies have already practiced this exercise and can do them well, then the next part would be the regular fire drills. This is to catch them off guard to see how fast they would react. In a real life situation, there will be no one to tell them that there will be an emergency in a few hours as they have to be prepared at all times.

Now from there, the newbies will actually be put to the test in an almost real situation. This means that the seniors are going to let them do a mock fire to test if they really are capable of handling a real life situation. This will really test them to check if they know how to properly react and do the job.

Now for the actual simulation, the newcomers will be performing the entire process of getting ready to actually putting out the fire. Basically, when the alarm goes off, they will put on their uniforms, get their equipment ready, and drive off to the site given to them. From there, they will practice putting out a fire.
