Effectively Disciplining Children To Be Responsible In Keeping Their Room Neat & Organized

By Justine Evans

Clean and soiled clothes strewn everywhere. Toys scattered practically all over the place. School things getting misplaced, only to be found on the kitchen cupboard. These scenarios are common among households with small and big children alike. But know that there are actually tricks that you can do to make children realize the value of having a clean, organized house.

De-cluttering children's rooms can be a bit challenging if there are not rules and schedules to be followed. Prepare a reasonable schedule and a set of rules that will get everyone involved. Incorporate cleaning time for the bedroom as one of the tasks to be accomplished everyday. Making things tidy in the bedroom on a daily basis will help them conform to the habit that you want them to imbibe in their system.

Don't underestimate the capacity of toddlers to participate in the clean-up activities. Even at a very young age, they are already able to grasp simple instructions and follow rules as long as they are explained very well. Since they're highly visual individuals, you can use pictures on storage boxes to help them sort their toys. By just looking at the pictures, they'll be able to categorize their toys and then put them in their proper places.

Apart from using child-friendly bedroom furniture, go for double-duty pieces to be able to accommodate more things for storage. A bed with drawers underneath can be used for clothes or linens like bed sheets, blankets, or towels. Or, it can also be used for toys that are frequently used since it can easily be accessed by youngsters. With a storage bed, there may be no need for bulky dressers or toy shelves anymore. This will result to a much bigger floor space and roomier and brighter interiors.

While you're doing all these, make it a point to be a good example to your children as well. Teaching them to do things which you are not able to do yourself is just a waste of time since nothing will ever get accomplished. Child discipline starts with leading by example and letting your kids see how well you stick to your own rules. Show them what you want them to do and give a good justification as to why such is indeed a good thing to do.
