How To Do Well With SAT Test Prep

By Madelene Baisch

In order to get into college you should take the scholastic assessment test. You want to practice for this exam by taking the college SAT test prep. Here are also other ways to prepare for this exam in order to ensure you get a good score. The higher your score is, the better your chances of getting accepted to the college of your choice.

The best way to prepare for the exam is to purchase practice workbooks. Take the exam as though you were really taking it, with the same amount of time given. This will help you figure out where you shine, and where you still need some practice in. Once you know what is most difficult for you, then you can start working on finding ways to improve in those areas.

When you start taking the practice exams, you will come across vocabulary words that you may not understand. After taking the practice exams go back and find these vocabulary words. Write these words in a journal and study them. Become familiar with those words, and as you start taking more practice exams, you will find that a lot of these start being repeated. You may also find yourself seeing a lot of those repeated on your actual exam.

On the reading portion of the exam, you will find that some of those stories you read through quickly. You will also notice that these stories were stories that you found interesting. Then you will have stories which you will have to read a few times before you can actually focus on the story. It is not that the words are difficult on these stories, but simply not stories that you find interesting.

Once you start seeing which topics you find yourself bored with, then you can start focusing on those. Read more stories and take more practice quizzes simply on those topics. You can also pick up books about those specific topics. Continue reading about these until you are able to get yourself focused on them. This will help you stay focused when you take the exam.

During the actual exam you want to use the process of elimination. Find any answers that you are certain cannot be right and cross them out. If after the process of elimination you are still having trouble answering a question, skip it. Go after all the easy questions then come back to answer the difficult ones with the remaining time.

Remember that practicing and doing SAT test prep is only part of the steps to get you ready to pass the exam. You still need to eat well and get plenty of rest. This will help you be alert and ready when you take the exam, in order to score well on it.
