Content About San Antonio Eye Glasses

By Deanne Shepard

Eye glasses refer to lenses that have frames for maintaining them on the eyes. They are also called spectacles or simply as glasses. They are worn by people of different ages for various reasons. Modern technology has allowed incorporation of different designs in them allowing a single device to serve several purposes. In San Antonio eye glasses are designed and made by experts in eye care and vision problems. This makes products in the area to be of good quality.

These items get grouped depending on their application. Main groups are corrective, sunglasses, fashion, safety, and 3D articles. Corrective lenses are used to correct refractive errors in people with impaired vision. They eliminate the effects presented by various eye conditions like astigmatism, presbyopia, myopia, and hypermetropia through bending of light as it enters the eye. Their designs are all meant to meet the prescriptions made by eye care experts such as optometrists and ophthalmologists. Accuracy of prescriptions may be verified by use of a lensmeter.

Safety glasses are special products specifically meant for preventing injuries and contamination caused to the eyes. They keep liquid and solid substances away from the sensitive organs in different working settings. Plastic used to make their lenses is shatter-resistant. Goggles are sometimes used as replacements for welding helmets when helmets cause discomfort or inconvenience. Goggles like those ones contain dark lenses. The lightweight nature and flexibility of nylon-framed products make them applicable by athletes during training and competitions.

Sunglasses are at times worn to preventing UV and bright light from harming the eyes. The lens incorporated in such products is photosensitive. This means that its color transforms to dark upon being struck by bright Ultraviolet radiation. This way, excessive radiation is blocked off from reaching the eyes and causing harm. Light polarization capability incorporated in modern products also allow them to eliminate horizontally polarized beams

Today, many people wear glasses to hide eyes or for style. Many celebrities identify, distinguish or separate themselves from their movie characters by wearing these products. Near opaque glasses are also worn by blind people for cosmetic reasons.

Technology has made it possible for lenses to be made from high-tech plastics as opposed to glasses as was traditionally the case. High-tech plastics have several advantages over glass. Some of the advantages include being light, durable, thinner, scratch-resistant, not easily breakable, and ability to be treated. The lenses are therefore classified into various classes such as trivex, photochromic, aspheric, polarized, polycarbonate, and high index plastic lenses.

Each class of lens is used to make products for use in different conditions and environments. Polycarbonate lens is impact resistant making it useful for use by athletes and children. Trivex lens has similar properties as polycarbonate but it is thinner, lighter, and provides better vision correction. The plastic it is made from is also relatively newer.

High index plastic lens is designed to suit strong prescriptions. Their curvatures are made of differing degrees. The nature of curvature distinguishes it from traditional lenses which are normally spherical. Usable surface in aspheric lens is larger because of the nature and shape of the surface.
