An Overview Of Problems With Public Education Systems

By Dora Reed

Education is one of the most important investments one can make. Yet with such a bulk of importance comes a relatively heavy pay checks too. It gets more expensive by the day. The poor population cannot afford to educate their children without aid. Some struggle so hard to have their children learn but can only make it partially. This article gives an overview of problems with public education.

This unmet need made it necessary for the government to come to their rescue and introduce public education. This is a system that allows all persons of a particular age to get free education. This is made possible courtesy of province or country government. They shoulder the financial burden of schooling those children that cannot afford it otherwise.

There is a problem of low levels of discipline in these schools. Several cases of indiscipline go into record each day. These cases require a lot of resource to solve and this poses a distraction. The fact that punishment has been prohibited makes matters worse for the teachers. Students involve themselves in illegalities with no fear of the consequence.

The presence of the organization of union of teachers poses another major problem. This union does very little if at all the asses the competence of the teachers in these schools. This negligence causes teachers to careless about the learning of pupils in these schools. Due to these unions, public schools have very incompetent and lazy teachers to say the least. This discourages even the determined and caring teachers.

There is also a loss of focus on the basics of education. It is another major problem of a system. A wide range of disciplines are taught and exercised in these schools. This is not bad on its own but it leaves very limited time for the basics to be accomplished. A child might be good at so many other activities but sucks at reading and writing exercises. This is a clear indication that the priorities of a system are not in line with those of education.

This system also puts too much concern on age as a classing module. Students are put into classes with age as a distinguishing factor as opposed to the use of skill and ability. This again creates a major problem as pupils end up in classes but without the necessary skills and abilities to keep up with the academia of the class. This is a major headache cause for the teachers.

The environment in public schools is not competitive enough. These children are not encouraged to do their best at school. The teachers settle for mediocre performance and term it as good. This attitude limits competition in these schools and hence mediocre scholars and below average students is the order of the day. The brilliant students find themselves slackening too.

Lastly the lack for law in these schools also brings another problem into play. These institutions rarely make effort to express the importance of regulations and written rules to scholars. Due to this, students get used to having their way and acting as they please. In conclusion as much as public schools have accomplished a lot, much is left to desire still.
