Choosing the most competent among the numerous Seattle therapists is a hard one. However, getting through that challenge could also mean talking to someone that can help you get through your deepest problems and perhaps accept and understand yourself once again. Here are a few tips that can help you with such task.

When searching for a therapist, the first part could be very confusing. There are various terms that you meet along the way such as social workers, psychiatrists, psychologists, therapist and counselors and probably acronyms such as LPC, PhD or M. D as well. Although all of these choices are a good one, not everyone might be appropriate with your situation.

Counselors and therapists, social workers, psychiatrist and psychologists, these are some of the options that one has to choose should they decide to need counseling, or mental health treatment. But how does one actually choose? To be able to make an informed decision, one is very much encouraged to understand each option.

Therapist and counselor are titles that are usually interchanged. A licensed professional counselor is a person that obtained a master's degree in psychology and counseling. A therapist can be described as a person or any mental health professional which speaks to mentally and emotionally troubled patient regardless of their degree or title.

Counselor is a title that usually describe and LPC or someone that is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has achieved a master's degree in counseling and psychology. Psychologists are professionals that are certified and licensed to practice in the jurisdiction. These professionals are trained to conduct tests, diagnose and perform therapy.

Psychologists are mental health professionals who received proper education and training as and have a license that allows them to perform necessary tests to diagnose a mental condition. On the other hand, both social workers and counselors can only suggest such mental illness even if symptoms are very prominent.

To decide which one of these mental health professionals to choose, the answer would depend on the severity or the issues that you currently have. If you feel completely stressed out, then maybe a licensed social worker can help. However, if you feel depressed or suffering from other mental illness that needs treatment and therapy then a psychiatrist or a psychologist is advised.

It's wise to say that Seattle therapists exemplify mental health professionals that talks to clients, regardless of their qualifications and official titles. Choose whichever you think is the best and slowly start a better life to live.
