Tips for finding out about Green Energy

By Aaron Duff

How are you using green energy in your life right now? If you can't answer that question, you have to read this article. Green energy is clean, safe and cheap, so it is smart to make the most of it. Read these tips to find some smart ways to put green energy to use in your life.

Keep your office warm if you have computers running. You should keep computer rooms at temperatures between 64 and 81 degrees Fahrenheit. The warmer the room is, the more efficiently your computers will run. This tip saves you money on cooling computers during an emergency. The computers will react more quickly to changes in temperature if the room is kept warm.

Replace regular light bulb with Energy Star qualified bulbs. These bulbs last about ten times as long as a traditional incandescent bulb, and use approximately 75 percent less energy, saving you about $30 in energy costs during the lifetime of the bulb. They also emit about 75 percent less heat, and are therefore much safer.

Insulate your home. A pre-1950 home that isn't insulated will use approximately 60 percent more energy than a house that was built after 2000. Adding sufficient insulation to your attic and basement will greatly improve your home's energy efficiency. As well as keeping you warm in the winter, you will find that the home remains much cooler in the summer months, reducing the need for an air conditioner.

Too often, the water heater allows water to reach a scalding temperature when trying to take a shower. Try turning the maximum heat on the water heater down by twenty degrees, and you will see a definite decrease in electricity costs. Tankless water heaters are another green energy option for anyone.

Windmills are capable of creating electrical energy without polluting anything. Purchasing your own windmill can be expensive, and there may be restrictions on putting one up where you live. If you can install your own windmill, you will be able to sell excess electricity to your local power company and recoup some of your costs.

Consider investing in an electric kettle as a means of saving energy. Electric kettles use less energy to boil your water than stove-top kettles, and not only can they be used to make tea, but you can also use them to boil water for smaller meals you plan to cook.

If you can not afford to get new windows that are more energy efficient, be sure to invest in some good shades. During the summer months, cover the windows during the day to keep the sun out. In the winter months, leave the window covers open to let the sun heat up the rooms; close them at night though to help keep the cold out.

If you're considering switching to green energy sources, the easiest thing you can do is call up your current electric provider and see if the offer green energy. Many electric companies offer these power sources to their customers. They may cost a bit more, however, to offset the amount of money they would've had to invest in the sources.

Once you introduce green energy to your life, it will become easier to implement the tips from the article. Implementing the tips will result in lower energy bills for you, but it will also contribute to a cleaner world. Think about how much green energy can help you, and apply the tips from this article.
