The most widely respected test of English is the IELTS and it serves as the base for recognition of students and the people who want to migrate to foreign English speaking countries. IELTS tests all the candidates for writing, listening, speaking and reading skills. The test for language is conducted by Cambridge University ESOL Examinations, IDP: IELTS Australia and British Council. The individual modules are prepared according to the discipline which the student wants to appear in.

IELTS testing offers you two formats; the first will be General Training and the next Academic. IELTS provides practice material for the students so that they are acclimatized to the actual question types and the model of the paper. There are four portions of the test with one hour being allocated to each reading portion and writing portion, half hour being given to speaking portion and around 10-15 for the listening part with questions numbering 40. One will get two similar type modules one for reading-writing and the other for listening-speaking. The individual will get his band score only when he has attempted or sat for all four portions of the tests.

There will be two tasks in writing and there will be 40 questions to answer in reading. These are tests to determine how skilled and adaptable the person is in working atmospheres which require independent tackling of problems in English language. The high testing standards reflect the toughness of the test and the scores tell of how capable and deserving the person is. The exam committee makes these tests as realistic to actual life so that one may find what the ground-level skills are of the people who are appearing for the test.

IELTS scores serves as the basis for all admissions in excess of 135 countries to tertiary institutes, training colleges, universities and schools. The test papers are framed in such a way as to make adjustments to the language and style of the people who are from the region, and this makes the results to be uniform. People who are planning on migrating to English-speaking countries like Canada, New Zealand, UK or Australia to work there or to study will find these test scores indispensable. It also serves as the benchmark for the standardization of admissions to a lot of government institutions, agencies and departments. The student community likes the test because it has universal acceptance.

Annually the IELTS will specify specific locations and on 48 designated days each year, the IELTS will conduct tests. Only grades are given to those who appear for IELTS tests and they do not pass or fail. Grading of the IELTS tests are done on an increasing scale from 1 to 9. One of the aspects of the examination is that one can attempt it infinite number of times. For those candidates who obtain poor scores in the examinations must check up the dates of the next exam and then resubmit their application. The students who are wishing to look for another chance should go to the test centers and ask for the forms that are supplied by the committee.
