A Guide To Help You Decide If College Is Right For You

By Gertrude Bramiah

After all your efforts to find and get accepted at the college of your choice, you have finally arrived. You will be successful if you are well prepared. It is sometimes difficult to get into the swing of things when you first start college. This article has lots of tips so you can get the most from your college experience.

Always know how to get a hold of the police on campus. It should be very simple to contact the campus police and security departments, so be sure that you are familiar with the procedure. Hopefully, you will never need that number, but you should have it, just in case.

It is important to not join the campus student government association until at least your sophomore year. You won't have a voice or any weight behind what you have to say until you've been around a while. You can use your freshman year to learn about campus politics and discover what role you'd like to play in them.

Take a bus to campus. You are going to find that it is not much longer to sit on the bus on the way to school. This will also save you the hassle of having to find a non existent parking spot in the full campus lot. If you want to drive your own car, expect to pay for a parking pass. It's also a great way to "go green."

Do not have your cell phone on in class. People are trying to pay attention to the teacher during class. This will keep your cell phone from disrupting others. It is not alright to text during class. People can see you, and you are certainly causing a disruption. Your best bet is to either turn your phone off or keep it on silent during class.

Think about a study skills class if you find yourself having trouble learning. Many students are used to getting high grades with comparatively little effort in high school and may not be sure how to study for their college courses. These courses may help you learn how to pass your class.

You can always purchase used books to save money. Textbooks sometimes cost quite a bit of money. Tuition is already a very large expense, you should save money somewhere! Try to buy books online or at a used bookstore. Used books are much cheaper than new.

Make sure you're rising early in the mornings. This does not mean getting up at 4 in the morning, but waking around 6 or 7 in the morning can let you have time to consume a nutritious breakfast, maybe exercise or get some extra study time.

Students still in high school should think about college early without stressing about it. Keep good grades. Participate in volunteer work. Shop around for colleges. During your junior year, start thinking deeply about the colleges you wish to attend.

It is vital that you develop a sleep schedule at college. Between social activities, work, and classes, college students are bound to not get enough sleep. If you don't get enough sleep, you won't be able to focus.

If you are a coffee junkie, try not to purchase a serving every day. It is just too expensive. You should brew your coffee instead of buying it at a shop. It might not be quite as convenient as visiting the neighborhood coffee shop, but it's a lot cheaper. You can even buy a fancy machine and save.

The info shared in this article will help you to learn how to strike a better balance between school and life. You can use this advice to help you get the most out of college.
