They can give up transfers and promotions to gain self-independence because they prefer being self-reliant, independent and free from other people as much as possible. These autonomous people include professors, teachers and many others. They aim to achieve the highest level of education.

Technical or functional competence. People around this category are quite knowledgeable, and they prefer taking jobs that involve system analyses and engineering. Their motivation lies in the production of highly effective work in the field of their specialization. Their self-concept is determined by the ability to succeed and get recognized in their specialty. They actively identify themselves with their specialty. Doing their jobs better than others while using their skills is the primary way to meet the challenges they face. They like being challenged.

Security or stability. These are the people who prefer to work in environments which offer security and stability rather than those that offer riskier and challenging conditions. Their main motivation is rising on the corporate ladder to take the most top responsibilities. Emotional, interpersonal and analytical areas are well known to them. Emotional competence is the capacity of a person to remain calm during emotional times by staying proactive and energized. Analytical competence helps in identifying and analyzing problems to develop solutions for each. These help these persons take up those leadership positions.

Entrepreneurial creativity. The primary drive for people here is to gain their accomplishment and a strong urge to open personal businesses. Overcoming all obstacles by taking risks provides for their motivation. These individuals are highly creative and like taking challenging assignments. Huge amounts of money characterize their success. The objective of such persons is to produce a profitable and a marketable product and service regardless of the technology, and irrespective of the intellectual discipline.

The lifestyle anchor. They believe that work is not the only component of life. They think that life should be balanced with various interests. Their career life is composed of learning, friends, family, hobbies, leisure and recreational activities.

Dedication to a cause. Their motivation lies in dedicating their work and living in serving others. Money does not motivate people of this category. They like working for others, and hence the jobs they do are directly in the service of other people. They include people such as nurses.
