Guided Kundalini Meditation

By Lowes Cambell

Kundalini symptoms are a natural by-product when people awaken the kundalini in their body and mind. This word comes from the Hindu tradition and is used to describe a form of mysterious energy that lies dormant in all of us at the foot of our spine. When awakened this energy rises up the spine, purifies all chakras along the way until it reaches the head where it unites with its 'divine spouse' and the person reaches enlightenment. The concept of energy from our abdomen rising up to the head is not limited to Hinduism but has been known in many spiritual traditions all over the world. In Tibetan Buddhism it is called 'tummo' (literally 'fierce woman'), in parts of Taoism it is referred to as 'neikung' and in the Christian tradition people have used expressions like 'the holy spirit went into him' or simply as 'grace'.
[About Kundalini]

The gifts of kundalini. All it's experiences have in common that people feel more or less overwhelmed by some powerful energy rushing through their system and rewarding them with amazing spiritual visions, supernatural bliss or gifts like clairvoyance or the ability to heal others with the power of the mind. People may also get amazing insights to questions that are important to humankind, they may be able to create true works of art or help others in a profound way. At the pinnacle of these experiences people may feel that they are uniting with God or becoming enlightened.

There are many differing ways for it to awaken and rise. Probably the rarest is when it rises directly to the crown of the head Sahasrahara chakra. For such a rising of it to take place a great deal of 'purification' must already have taken place, as spiritual practice in the current or other lives. Unfortunately this is often how it's awakening is thought of, and without proper understanding seems highly desirable. More commonly the process takes many many years, and may not even complete in the same lifetime that the rising began. In such an instance the process will begin again and continue in another life, sometimes beginning as early as childhood.Ideally a person has a well-established and integrated spiritual practice prior to, and initiating kundalini awakening and rising. Even more ideally they have the guidance and protection of a Sat Guru or perfect master. If not, my advice would be to find one, and satisfy yourself that they are indeed a fully liberated being. Each individual experiences this opening in a unique way according to the karmic content of their unconscious. There are lots of common experiences, but each person moves into this awakening on a path of their own. Only a perfect master will be in a position to help guide someone with a kundalini rising.

This elevator... the shortcut is the path which can be awakened by preserving the cosmic energy provided to every human being every month. As the stored energy increases... so does the journey expedite?Every true seeker of spirituality has to one-day switchover to the recourse of it's awakening for the normal path may take millions of manifestations... a long journey indeed! As the Shakti raises from the base of the spine towards the centre of the forehead... one shall experience very fearful flashes. It is really frightening sometimes as this awakening is accompanied by the shadow of a mammoth king cobra with many heads glaring at you from a short distance. The coiled Serpentine kundalini Shakti has been compared to the power which one experiences while watching a coiled snake coming out of slumber. It is too frightening an experience and many seekers of spirituality leave their journey midway.

Why can it's rising be so painful? this is essentially energy and it works like an amplifier in our mental, spiritual, emotional and physical system. Basically, it amplifies all our experiences - and this can be a blessing or a curse depending on what is going on in our mind. If our life is well-ordered, full of love, spirituality and meaningful work then this will make us even more loving, spiritual and even more successful in our work.

If we make an examination of mystical literature and traditions in cultures outside India we find that kundalini, called by various names, seems to have been a universal phenomenon in esoteric teachings for at least the last three thousand years. these descriptions or experiences are found in esoteric teachings and symbolism of the Egyptians, Tibetans, Chinese, some Native Americans, and the Kung bushmen of Africa. it has been interpreted from the Bible as "the solar principle in man," or possibly the concept as 'pneuma', and is referenced in the Koran, the works of Plato and other Greek philosophers, possibly as well in alchemical tracts (the philosopher's stone), and in Hermetic, Kabbalistic, Rosicrucian, and Masonic writings.it is then the power of the Divine within us, and it's awakening and rising will ultimately result in the ultimate 'union' of yoga, the union of Divine consciousness in the human body.*vasana: (Sanskrit) "Subconscious inclination." From vas, "living, remaining." The subliminal inclinations and habit patterns which, as driving forces, color and motivate one's attitudes and future actions. Vasanas are the conglomerate results of subconscious impressions (*samskaras) created through experience. Samskaras, experiential impressions, combine in the subconscious to form vasanas, which thereafter contribute to mental fluctuations, called vritti. The most complex and emotionally charged vasanas are found in the dimension of mind called the subsubconscious, or vasana chitta.
