Vital Things To Keep In Mind About Ecotourism

By Michael Gomez

Across the world, ecotourism is increasing in popularity. Especially to countries who have a rich ecosystem for everyone to see and enjoy. There are many developers who will formulate a plan in developing and designating certain areas for tourism. But there are some communities who are unwilling to cooperate to this idea because they are pessimistic about it because of the fact that these communities depends on the area for food and shelter. The potential revenue maybe uncertain but the important thing is to protect the environment for everyone.

To make ecotourism successful is to make the local communities to cooperate, which is why it is vital that they understand the benefits that they can gain because of this project. They should see that it can create a practical and sustainable tourism opportunities. Ecotourism will limit the impact of human-related activities that can harm the environment. The local should see that they lives will improve because of this venture. There is surely a potential change in their lives if they cooperate on this project for their family and the environment. Teaching this type of perception, to be optimistic is a great way to make the locals participate in this endeavor.

Ecotourism has core principles that are very useful in understanding more about the benefit of this idea to the people and environment. These core principles are:

It helps increase awareness of the political, environmental and social issues of the country concerned

Empowering local communities by building environmental and cultural awareness

Ecotourism helps minimize the industrial impact on the environment that can cause harmful effect to everyone

It helps ensure that the experience is positive for all parties which includes visitors and hosts

Another thing to make ecotourism a successful one is knowledge. It should have the chance of gaining more knowledge about the area and its habitat. This knowledge can help determine on how a small change can affect the area. There is also a great understanding on how one can have an impact on another. The relationship between the people and the environment should be well understood. Most local communities know the value of their environment because this is where they hunt, farm, and gather materials for personal use.

For every project the local communities should be included. They know more and understand the area and its complex ecosystems better than anyone else involved in the project. Everyone should keep in mind that the aim of ecotourism is to achieve sustainable and responsible tourism practices to the benefit of all and the detriment of none.
