Spill Containment Berms Are Critical To Societal Development

By Christi Larsen

The move from nomadic hunter gatherer societies to groupings with larger numbers of individuals in close proximity created change. The impact of a single person on the environment moving though a geographic area is negligible. But when large numbers of people congregate, the need for control to ease environmental impact and maintain safety becomes clear, and spill containment berms are an inexpensive, efficient solution.

Across the globe, the native populations had found a way to survive off the land with a balance brought from an understanding of how their activity changed the environment and a minimal population presence. The success of humans as a species meant that an ever growing population meant difficulties in sustaining their lives. The ability to obtain sufficient quantities of water and food and to eliminate the waste products of a society would prove very challenging.

Every society consumes resources in its environment in order to sustain life, and for most species, the impact large populations can have are mediated by the mass migration of the populations over a large area. Human beings, however, largely settle into communities that remain stationary, though individuals may come and go. The creates a disproportionate stress on the environment near such settlements, and challenges the populations capability to sustain an existence.

With a capability unlike any other species, people have the ability to find the means to build structures capable of allowing human habitation in even the most austere habitat. The problem is that many such environments do not always lend themselves to the production of food or access to water. Still a collaborative effort by people are able to overcome event complex challenges.

As a whole, the pursuit of societies has been towards developing a balance between the effort to survive and the desire for leisure. Not all cultures and societies develop at the same speed, with some living primitively while others thrive in luxury. Ideally, the developed nations will find a way to help developing nations and eliminate much of the strife which leads to conflict.

In these areas, there is an opportunity to assist in bringing fellow societies to a more comfortable life. If the developed nations could find a way to get past the age old human drive for individuals to gain and maintain control of territory and people, life could be simpler. The initial phases might not include the installation of high-technology devices for water and sanitation, but there are simple effective solutions to irrigation and waste treatment.

Fortunately, the means of providing the basics for human existence have been around for centuries. Modern production capabilities have even made the transport of devices and material to even remote areas possible. All that remains is the will of civilizations to work together to improve conditions for all.

These various chemicals and other products must be available in large quantity to be effective to the complex work of clearing, excavation and then building. Keeping the needed volumes in an area close enough to the development for use can be dangerous for the workers and inhabitants. The careful implementation of spill containment berms can make the process safe and efficient.
