The state of New York has among the biggest police agencies in the US and it's objective would be to consistently lead the country in reducing crime. They're on the look out for competent people to become a member of their agency and carry on this goal. There are a lot of options available for those who are eligible such as police officers, highway patrol, aviation specialists, crime scene investigators, emergency services, drug enforcement, criminal investigators, a whole bunch more.

1st step for prospects is taking the written test, but before you accomplish that be sure you are qualified to apply:

Must be no less than 17-1/2 years of age on the date of the exam.

Must not be more than 35 years of age on the date of the test.

Concerning applicants higher than 35 years of age who have military service experience, they could take away 6 years from the age requirement.

The following are the specifications to become a licensed cop in NYC:

Must be no less than 21 years of age on or before the date of employment.

Has to be a United States citizen on the day of hiring.

On or prior to the date of employment, candidates needs to have completed a minimum of 60 college credits having a 2.0 G.P.A. from a certified college.

Prospects should pay a $75.00 fingerprinting fee as part of the background exam.

Every candidate should pass an alcohol and drug evaluation.

Should pass a background and character examination.

Options also await for armed service vets who would like to pursue a profession in law enforcement.

A one time veteran's exam waiver can be utilized by a qualified veteran who satisfies the following prerequisites:

Prospects must be a United States citizen or provided with permanent residence status in the USA.

Needs to have received an honorable discharge from the US Military.

Should have served in active duty in the armed forces.

Take on the civil service examination.

Go through a pre-employment interview.

Successfully pass the medical examination to check for any issues that might hamper a persons capacity to execute their responsibilities as a police officer.

Take on the written psychological evaluation.

Undergo and complete a Job Standards Test that's an obstacle course which needs to be completed in 4 minutes and 28 seconds.

Take the oral mental exam.

Carry out a character and background evaluation.

After proceeding through all the phases stated previously, competent cadets goes through a rigorous training in the New York City Police Academy in which they'll move through various courses to develop a strong foundation that they'll need for their law enforcement profession.
