Catholic Fundamentalism Beliefs And Its Origin

By Enid Hinton

The catholic church has indeed been one of the biggest sources of power and influence all over the world even up until today. For many years the church has been practicing catholic fundamentalism until recently since the election of Pope Francis and the new teachings that he has been introducing to the public. Here is a short background on the fundamentals of the original catholic belief.

Now the one who made the very basic catholic fundamentalist beliefs was none other than the pope of the middle ages who was known as Pope Innocent III. He was the pope during the time of the golden age of the church because it was in his reign that the crusades won and the building of cathedrals began. It was also during this time that the church reached its peak of followers which is why this period is called the golden age.

Now what the fundamentalists believe is that everything that was made during the golden age is already absolute and should not be changed. The reason as to why they believe this is because they view this age as the time wherein the doctrines and the scriptures have already been interpreted correctly and properly. It is because of this that they do not want to change anything anymore.

Now ever since the time of the golden age, the church has been interpreting the Bible word for word which means that everything that is written there is absolute. So if a certain rule is written in the Bible, then everyone has to follow it without question. If something is not written in the Word, then it is not Godly.

It is actually because of this that most conservatives actually rejected the scientific discoveries that the scientists of that time showed to the world. They believe that knowledge is given by God himself and not to be randomly discovered by human beings on earth. It is for this reason that they did not acknowledge such brains such as Newton or Galileo for that matter.

They are also against such secular beliefs such as divorce, the rights of women, homosexuality, and other social issues. This is simply because the Bible would state otherwise so that is what they believe in. They believe that if the Bible states that a certain act is wrong, then it is already wrong and the only way to become right would be to repent

Another thing that they believe in is that in order to be saved, one has to first undergo an emotional repentance. If there is no emotional outbreak during repentance, then that person has not been saved yet. They believe that being born again means being touched by the spirit of God and is supposed to be a very emotional and spiritual process.

Now ever since the golden age of catholicism, the church has been following all of these beliefs for so many years until the new Pope had been introducing a bunch of new ideas that would fit this time period. Of course there is still a lot of resistance from the fundamentalists that still do not want any change. Their belief is that if something is written in the scriptures, then it should be followed.
