Ways Of Using Learning Language Conventions Picture Book

By Barbara Powell

It is believed that man did not develop language until an advanced stage in evolution. This suggests that before then they use sign language and drawings to communicate. One can be able to tell a whole story just by observing a single picture. That is how messages can be interpreted from the sites where people used to live. So learning language conventions picture book is indeed possible.

At this point, most of us have learned about language convention. We already know how to use it in spoken word and written information. Convention can also be used in visual communication. It is brought out by emotion, mood and ideas sometimes. Picture books are good for children between 1-13 years of age. They learn interpretation at a young age.

Pictures can result from combining various lines or blocks of different colors. The color used in a picture also tells a lot. A dim picture may represent low key emotion while brightly colored pictures may suggest a lot of joy. Using border lines suggest dynamic feelings while shading brings out a sense of calmness and gentleness.

As soon as the students are able to translate messages from pictures regularly. You can challenge them to find out the different techniques used in different pictures and what they suggest about the image. As they continue learning, translating messages comes easier and easier to them. Soon they are able to express their own thoughts and messages in the form of pictures.

A narrative can be expressed in different ways. One of those ways is a picture book. A child can be able to follow a story just by browsing through a book. The narrative is usually portrayed in three parts. The first part might start out well, but a conflict will eventually arise. The second part is where they try to solve the conflict only to lead to more complication. The final part is the climax where the conflict actually gets solved.

Just like in novels and films, symbolism can be expressed in a pictorial book. The presence of the sun and even the clear sky might seem to suggest happiness or hope. The appearance of dullness and gloomy weather may suggest a bad, day or occurrence of unpleasant effects in that particular scene or in the one that follows.

The form in which as story Is also presented tells a lot. A film may be presented in a series of flashbacks of things that happened before the main plot. This film may be a story of a person or a group of people looking back on their lives. A picture book can be presented in a set of collages. The style and organization affect the message put across visually.

Another majorly important thing is the setting of the story. For a setting of a long time ago, everything might appear a bit out dated. A modern-day story has things that are seen every day such as skyscrapers and modern vehicles. For a future based book, you may see some overly advanced technology.
