A Summary Review Of Catholicism And Fundamentalism

By Olivia Cross

Keating Kart has compiled 360 pages addressing the questions and concerns of non-Christians, Protestants and bible-Christians about the Catholic faith. The result is a book entitled Catholicism and Fundamentalism. Since its release by Ignatius Press in 1988, it has caused many Protestants to convert into Catholicism and strengthened the faith of lukewarm Catholics.

The book answers fundamental questions including where Protestants get their information about Catholics and their faith. It reveals how the anti-catholic movement has grown in the United States and its manifestation. Individuals who love engaging in arguments have been given vital tips on how to maintain their peace during such verbal contests.

The author has researched thoroughly to reveal the most determined anti-catholic organizations and their activities. The names of their heads are also given alongside their location and their financiers. The author has clearly explained the meaning of infallibility.

Kart Keating reveals her stand on bible Christians by defining them and attempting to understand their intentions and mission. According to Kart, these are individuals opposed to the Catholic faith, her rites, dogmas and beliefs on the basis that they are not directly provided for in the scripture. This group comprises of Protestants, evangelical and non-Christians as well as atheists.

Kart has taken time to examine the history of Catholicism over the years. This provides an answer to a fundamental question that is asked regarding the conservativeness of the Rome based church. The tone used in these chapters is informative as opposed to defensive or justification that would be expected of such a subject.

Kart Keating files a rebuttal to the claim that Catholicism has deviated from biblical teachings. The evidence given to support this claim includes rites and beliefs that are not expressly provided for in the bible. Among the issues addressed in this chapter is why Mary takes a central position in the Catholic Church.

Keating has conclusively handled the controversy that revolves around some popes and their reign in history. Some controversies mentioned include an era when there were two popes. The events leading to the situation are clearly explained as well as how a solution was found. It requires a very open mind and the hunger for the right information to read this chapter. It carries a lot of history and explains how it shaped the current church.

Kart has addressed issues that emanate from non-Christians regarding the bible. This includes providing an answer to the question, Was the bible inspired by God? This is done alongside the history of different books and their authors. The chapter is used to dispel the theory that the book was the work of conspiracy theorists. The reader will also understand why the Catholic bible contains seven more books that are not in the protestant bible.

The author has taken time to address Catholics interested in understanding their faith by outlining the books that must form part of their library. Beyond the bible, there are catechism and important books on history. The insight provided by this book is amazing and recommended to anyone seeking answers about the Catholic faith.
