CERT Products Let You Respond To Disasters

By Eric Holm

Community Emergency Response Teams, also known as CERTS, educate people on how to prefer for disasters which can suddenly occur. They explain how to enhance the possibility of survival during and following disasters. Among the skills that can be taught are team organization, fire safety, light search and rescue and disaster medical operations. These courses are taught in a classroom according to a schedule. Once these skills are acquired, CERT members are able to help out during disasters and crises, regardless of where they occur or how bad they are. They provide an important service during the time it takes a professional rescue team to respond.

The city fire department of Los Angeles, LAFD, developed as well as implemented this concept in 1985. The need for these measures was immediately felt during 1987 when a large earthquake occurred in the Whittier Narrows part of the county of Los Angeles in California. Because of this, the LAFD created a bench for disaster preparedness which had the intention to train individuals as well as employees of the government and private companies. CERT is important for training people to deal with any type of disaster. It helps them to understand how much they will be able to help their loved ones, even if there are no emergency supplies.

In case of emergency crises, professional CERT training and emergency CERT products can come in real handy. CERT products such a emergency response kit combined with the CERT Field Manual can help save lives when professional medical assistance or emergency help are not at hand. In order to have a global reach, CERT offers a number of allied non-technical products too, and these may include the famed baseball hat or bull horn, each of which are as good as the core CERT products.

Community Emergency Response Teams need a large number of emergency products including a 3 day - 72 hour emergency kit. CERT emergency supplies include first aid kits, first aid cabinets, medical emergency kits and supplies, and trauma kits and supplies. It is not that you can only buy CERT products if you belong to a local response team. You can have the products for your personal safety too and may be able to help your neighbor in times of crisis.

The CERT supplies as well as the first aid kits can be purchased at physical or online stores. It's important to get the Community Emergency Response Team colors and logo on the gear of your team so that the public can recognize you. These can be found on such items as bull horns, emergency ponchos, EVAC roll stretchers, polo shirts, survival kits, form books, field manuals, embroidered patches, hard hats, action response units and more. It's a good idea to get the emergency products that are needed as soon as possible so you can be prepared should an emergency occur.
