Mississauga Montessori Schools Encourage Enterprise In Learning

By Marissa Velazquez

In the United States, there is a growing membership of the so called Montessori Mafia among the creative elite according to a WSJ article by Peter Sims. A surprising number of notable people, among them Google founders have this background. They have attributed their original thinking to their early education in this system. There are many mississauga montessori schools in this Ontario region.

Most people know this technique is named after its female founder. This renowned Italian educator was a standard bearer for her gender. She was first female medical doctor in her country. Her fame was demonstrated by 3 Nobel Peace Prize nominations. Her nontraditional schooling method is founded on close scientific observational methods of studying how children learned naturally.

Close observation disclosed that self guided learning is how children acquire information by themselves. Institutions set up an environment under this method to enable students to learn this way. Materials are provided to challenge children so they develop through personal choice. A century has passed and the polarity of this method is growing in our time. Around the world pupils as young as babies through adolescence learn this way. Young students are encouraged as they grow older to learn through personal evolution. Boredom will never settle in this active process.

The power of early schooling over later scholarship reveals that this is a pivotal stage that underpins future learning. But appreciation of this method has made it more difficult for parents to put their children in the right school. There are so many professing to apply this technique, it has become default to tell the pretenders apart from authentic examples. With no existing requirement for licensing every school, some may be of questionable authenticity.

They may even incorporate some aspects of this approach and parts of its philosophy. But, on the whole the result is not adequate. The many variations of what is purported to be genuine requires parental homework in advance of selecting a school. Prior to enrollment, parents must find out whether the school is affiliated with a Montessori association. They will have an advantage if understand what type of training prospective teachers have obtained. Observing classes will indicate whether children are getting authentic education. Some key factors to look out for are mentioned below.

There should be self directed learning. Instructors do not provide information using conventional techniques. They function as facilitators under this system guiding pupils to learn through discovery. Discovery motivates creative enterprise within a child. There are no tests and competitive learning is discouraged. Teachers design individual assignments to encourage each individual pupil to learn through personal progress.

Education must be an active exercise. Observing students learn math can be useful. Math knowledge gets absorbed when a tactile method is employed. Numbers are more meaningful as they become tangible. Classes must have multigenerational studying possibilities. One of the foundational tenets of this technique is that younger children learn from guidance provided by older children. Authentic schools will not be separated along conventional grade classifications. Problem solving, socialization and child to child teaching are parts of an interactive process.

Maps should be noticeably placed. Their purpose is to remind students of the outside world and their place in it. A strong cultural focus is a part of this philosophy. It is critical that selected Mississauga montessori schools be evaluated carefully. The right school will establish a foundation with lasting influence.
