Why Ant Pest Control Should Be Left To The Experts

By Jenny Walker

Anyone that has had an ant pest control problem can know how frustrating it is to have the cleanest of homes and still be troubled by the army of ants that wants to make its way to the food pantry or bins. It is like that they are on a mission and nothing but nothing will get in their way.

In order to treat your ant problem you should first know what you're up against. These tiny creatures called ants have been around for ages. The fact that it can carry 100x its own body weight is enough proof how strong and determined this pest is.

The search for the ant is purely survival tactics and the ants as small as they are can live on bark, wood cuttings and soft twigs. Basically any minute food can keep them going from the crumbs from a cake to dog food that is left out. Don't be fooled by the size of the ant as they can gain access through the smallest crack and crevices and go places that you wouldn't think that they could get in.

1. Carpenter ants. Coming out mostly at night, these black-colored ants are so small that there are some people who mistakenly think that they are termites. They are mainly food foragers but do not sting.

2. All fire ant sitings should be reported immediately or risk a fine as they are listed as a noted pest in Queensland. The red coloured ant delivers a sting that may need to seek immediate first aid if bitten.

3. If you have ever seen a bull ants next they get aggressive if you get too close and with their perfect vision can chase and sometimes jump on you. If stung first aid should be applied eg such as an ice pack, if any reaction medical treatment should be sought.

I always tend to go for the simple things first such as cleaning surfaces and vacuuming floors. Remembering to empty the vacuum after doing this.

Personally I don't like to use pesticides around my family and other than cleaning I look at where they are getting in and seal cracks where they may be entering. Wipe over areas with a mild bleach or cleaning agent.
