Discovering The Right Self Development Course

By Jerry Stevens

When desiring to enhance a great life, individuals often have a number of options. In one case, completing a self development course can often be a good choice. In addition, there are a number of these courses now being offered by individuals and institutions free through on and offline channels. For example, there are over ten individuals now offering online courses which focus on different areas of life, some which are free and others which have a nominal enrollment fee.

In some cases, individuals offering different courses in this area might offer free registration for a short period of time. Whereas, there area others whom offer free courses in order to sell a number of products and services. In either case, there is usually no charge for completing the course and if an individual finds the materials interesting and can afford the price, the products and services can often be beneficial in maintaining a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life in the future.

In some cases, colleges and universities will provide certificates either for successfully completing a course or, for a small donation to the sponsoring school. While some had offered Honor Code certificates in the past simply for completing all the coursework, watching all the lectures and participating in discussions, most no longer do so. Although, edX, Saylor Academy, Coursera and similar websites still allow students to audit different courses on a non-tuition basis.

When it comes to completing courses through these sites, there are a number of self development type courses along with more traditional offerings such as biology, chemistry, English, philosophy, physics, psychology science, theology, math and other categories from universities around the world. In fact, some of these websites are now offering the opportunity to become certified in different areas by completing multiple courses within one program of study.

When it comes to independent courses, these are often provided through a number of different videos and downloadable workbooks. Depending on the provider, individuals may or may not have to complete and return assignments. Whereas, while some provide certificates upon completion, others do not.

While these courses can often be fun, exciting and beneficial, there are other paths an individual can take on a path of self discovery and development. These paths include, attending local conferences, seminars and workshops on different topics, participating in local bookstore and library readings and events, taking part in programs at a local senior center or attending a local health and wellness fair.

Since self development often refers to balancing body, mind and spirit, individuals can often find classes at different churches, community centers, medical centers, hospitals and others whom offer health clinics and courses open to the public. In most cases, these classes are offered free of charge to aid in strengthening the overall community. Whereas, individuals can often learn more about others and oneself by getting out and enjoying local community events.

Ultimately, by attending any or all of these courses and events, an individual can grow professionally and personally, often without even trying. Whereas, by getting out and participating in local events, individuals can often make friends and network with others whether related to common interests or work related matters. As such, if a conference, class, program, seminar, workshop or event looks interesting, it is most likely an event worth attending.
