Approaches And Resolutions To Environmental Remediation

By James Howard

This is the process of removing pollution and contamination from water, soil, and the surface. The government or the environment authorities generally do the work. Sometimes the government will request the public to help in the cleaning process. If environmental remediation is not done, it can lead to disasters and in worst cases death. Remedial action is a requirement for every person.

The procedures are carried out when there is a human or ecological risk. For example, climate change due to air pollution. There are available remediation services. These services are aimed at removing any toxins from the environment. The site assessment is often done when an area is suspected of being contaminated. For example, when people become sick after drinking water from one source, the district must be assessed.

Government and institutions that deal with the control of pollution lack funds to carry out tests in regularly. Therefore they will learn of contamination when the impacts are felt. The public is advised to conduct regular analysis especially those who are at risk like industries. However, these organizations have come up with ways of solving this problem. For example they will charge industries and other prone areas a certain amount of money to be used in the process.

These organizations have invested in education. They will conduct seminars in different areas as a way of creating awareness on the importance of conservation. In addition, the subject has been introduced in all schools. This help in preparing the young generation early. When contamination is reported in an area, the government will make an announcement. However, this will be determined by the level of damage caused.

When a place is found to be contaminated by the government or the responsible authorities often make announcements that space is polluted. This can have an economic effect as the value of a property will drop. Also, it can lead to clients who were staying in the space to move. Despite these challenges the responsible governing countries have been able to come up with solutions.

Neighboring organizations are also tested as the problem might be arising from these sites. However, the procedure is sometimes ignored due to lack of finances and the necessary personnel. If your organization is found to be contaminated, it can lead to losses as people might transfer from the area, for example, the presence of unclean water in a residential area.

The in-situ is the treatment of affected soil through the removal of toxic substances. The techniques used include thermal desorption which is the removal of contaminants such as mercury, oil, and hydrocarbon. Excavation involves the removal of the affected part. For example if the land is affected soil form the area is removed and is taken to a controlled area where it is treated using chemical oxidation methods.

Other methods used include surfactant enhanced aquifer remediation, pump, and treat, solidification and stabilization among others. Throughout the process of testing and treatment of a place, the community should be informed. Also, members of a community are asked to volunteer in assisting those responsible for the cleanup process. Testing and remediation services should be done regularly as it can lead to an increase in health risk.
