Signs Of Calcium Buildup In Toilet And Some Solutions

By Della Monroe

The buildup of minerals is common in various areas of the kitchen and bathroom, especially when a home has hard water. These elements tend to stay in areas that are hard to clean like under the rim in the toilet. A calcium buildup in toilet happens over time but the signs might appear quite suddenly. It is often characterized by a pink or orange hue where the water flows. Methods to prevent and treat this occurrence do exist and may be simpler than you think. It is important to eliminate the mineral as soon as possible. The faster you act on it, the easier it is to get rid of.

Water running and sitting in one place can cause the buildup of minerals. Bathtubs and showers, especially the doors are often recipients of these deposits. However, the toilet is possibly even more common, especially on the inside of the bowl where most of the liquid is found.

The minerals that deposit in these places do not necessarily appear when it all starts. In fact, most of the buildups are not noticed until much after it begins. The most common areas are those that are not easily seen or cleaned. As a result, the minerals have a better chance to stay in place. They collect in that area until they are eliminated.

When this occurs, you will see a pink or brownish orange coloring in that area. These colors may be around the rim or sides of the interior of the bowl. Generally, such deposits occur more often when the water is hardened because of the minerals like calcium.

Once these deposits are found, it's essential to have them removed. The longer the minerals are in place, the harder they are to eliminate. Even if you haven't seen the signs, you can still take prevention measures so that they won't happen.

In terms of prevention, a water softener may help. These products remove many of the minerals that are in the liquid. Such items are sold in different forms. Some of these items are easy to install and can be used immediately.

When the stains have already appeared, there are cleaners that have been designed for this purpose. You may want to check the labels of the products to ensure they are meant for this. Some of the items are stronger than others. For this reason, it's advised that you follow the given instructions. You are encouraged to turn off the water to the toilet and wear gloves while utilizing the cleanser.

Mineral deposits can look very unpleasant no matter where they are. It is possible to treat and prevent them. A brownish orange or pink color is usually a sign of these buildups. You can find cleansers that dissolve the minerals. You are encouraged to wear rubber gloves while cleansing the area. To prevent more deposits, a water softener may be a good solution.
