Advantages And Disadvantages Of Staying UMN Housing Off Campus

By Della Monroe

Every student in this world only wants to materialize dreams. But before they could materialize everything, they still have to educate themselves by enrolling in any good school which could provide them the best education of their chosen degree program. It is essential for them to be always ready in all the challenges that could possibly come their way. One of those challenges is the choosing of the best home for them.

We all know that most of the schools out there offer dormitories inside the campus. But there are several students who do not take this opportunity to just stay inside the school and made a home out it. These students take UMN housing off campus where students can still stay with their friends just outside the school.

But before you entirely make up your mind in staying in those outside school apartments, might as well consider all the beneficial things you can get and several drawbacks. Staying off campus can be costly for you due to the kind of life you have to live. Choosing to stay on campus makes everything reachable and literally near you. With all of those, here are the benefits and drawbacks in living outside the campus.

Talking about the benefits, one thing you really get is the freedom. You need not to follow any restrictions or rules like you always experience in school. Thus, you could just do whatever it is that you like to do. Study inside a small coffee shop in midnight or shop in those malls near the city.

You can now let out your creativity and style your apartment. Paint the walls with whatever color you want just like the one you had inside your bedroom. In addition, you get a peaceful environment to efficiently do all your assignments and projects. You have the freedom to cook your favorite meal anytime you like and no longer depend on the foods offered by your cafeteria. You may even invite your parents to stay with you for an entire day.

In terms of choosing your room, you also got the freedom. You may just simply rent a room for yourself or a large room so you and your friends could stay together. An entire organization often rent a house so they could bond more. It is all just a matter of income preference of all your roommates.

One of the cons will be the cost of your room. You might be renting the cheapest one in town but you cant guarantee to afford it every month. Take note, this is not included with your educational scholarship. Therefore, you need to budget more money for your rent and lesser for your personal expenses. Therefore, select only the apartment which you can literally afford to pay for every month.

You still have to take time in cleaning your room and compromise your time to study, shop for your own food, and buy several more groceries. Separately, you might be enticed to buy your own car to get ease transportation. Buying one will require you to buy gas and have it fully maintenance.

Start considering the bills for electricity, water, internet, pest control, phone service, trash pick up and a lot more. All of these are not for free when you are renting. Also consider the neighborhood you will be staying, is it safe and are there any guards around.
