Major Causes Of NY Traffic

By Tammie Caldwell

The large city of New York is famous and highly populated. There are a lot of travel that involve trains Cars, Sea vessels, and airplanes. Road usage is the however the most common mode of travel. Due to the many people that use vehicles, jams are usually experienced on the roads. If you are visiting the city, it is good to know how to avoid the rampant NY traffic.

In the transport industry traffics are considered as the number of motor vehicles, bicycles and carts that are moving from one direction to the other. It is due to the many available people moving their goods and services from one region to next. As a driver when you are caught up in the jam, you must wait for the car in front to move before you may start moving. This leads to a lot of braking thus much time is spent travelling. It can also easily lead to bumping onto the motorist ahead.

New York has some of the worlds best and biggest super highways that snake into every region. Some of these have lanes exceeding six. However, they still experience major traffic jams. This can be attributed to the number of vehicles coming onto the highway exceeds those that are coming out. This also shows this menace is not only due to the sizes of roads but many other contributing factors.

Accidents or incidents that happen cause delays in the movements of vehicles. They may lead to diversions and usage of longer routes. When an accident happens drivers are forced to consistently brake to avoid bumping onto to the vehicles in front. Although accidents results to jams, the reserve is also true.

Other factors include interference due to constructions that are taking place. These include the repairing, expansion and construction of new roads. The slow moving contractors trucks and other heavy artillery makes the roads unusable for a certain duration of time, this closures leads to diversion of other motorist to smaller temporary ways.

Poor climatic or weather conditions require slow careful driving. For example during the snowfall season the roads are covered with ice. This means that they will become slippery and dangerous for fast driving. The vision is also hindered and you must brake many times to avoid hitting other motors. As a result much time is spent on the roads.

The administrative authority of the city is always coming up with methods to reduce or curb these phenomena. The increasing number of vehicles and populations means that more roads are continually being built. The existing ones are also increased or expanded. Road construction is an expensive undertaking. The government has to look for urgent means that can help in finding a solution.

There is provision of special lanes for vehicles with high occupancy. This is what is commonly referred to as carpooling. It encourages citizens to leave their cars at home and share so as to the free flowing lane. The other method is ramp metering. Here, motorists are allowed to enter the highways at timed interval. This system not only improves the traffics speeds but also reduces chances of accident happening.
