By Stacey Burt

There are many people who aspire to become police officers. The most critical part of becoming a police officer is passing the police entry level exam. This is important since getting a job in the current days is proving to be very difficult. However, those who pass successfully the three steps that are followed in the police academy have a high chance of joining the law enforcement career and not missing out in employment.

Many people will be overconfident due to the current work experience they have or the high level of education they have achieved. To become a police officer, one has to be ready since the job requires a high demand of the personal demands. This is meant to only get the best from the best. The personal demand is a requirement since police officers are bestowed with the responsibility of protecting the citizens. Every morning when the police wake up and pin the badge on their uniforms, they are ready to face all the dangers and crimes in the state. Therefore, the police are weeded out to get only the most qualified.

Many agencies within the state, county and municipal have steps they follow in order to grade the individuals. Those who are ranked highest can then proceed to the next level.

The first step is the application part itself. The letter of application that is sent talks a lot about the applicant. Those who have spelling mistakes and poor grammar do not qualify to go to the next step. The police academies now use the computers to check the application letters. They scan for small mistakes. If there are any, then it means that the applicant will never be communicated to.

The next step is the written exam. The tests are not similar to those exams that are done in high school and or college. They are more demanding and tests the ability of the participants and the level of making snap decisions and remembering some details that are important. To be on the safe side, it is important to get coaching before proceeding to this step.

The oral test is the other step which aims to test the ability of a trainee on how to communicate effective orally. The trainers look for very simple mistakes which can lead to one being booted out. Some of the mistakes that are looked out for are stammering and stuttering among many others. It is also important to get a coach for training before proceeding to this step.

There are other tests which are done for instance the ability to outline people during communication depending on their race, religion and ethnicity. At this point, one should be careful not to get worked up when some vexatious questions are asked. They are meant to test the level of handling things.

Upon completion of all the above steps, then one can go ahead and apply for the physical exam. This qualifies one to go to the next level which is the next police academy.
