All About The Concrete Color Pigment

By Kerri Stout

Although there are a lot of available natural materials like woods and metals, ready made concrete mixture is also readily available. However, this material still needs to be stained or coated. There are many methods to give life and color to this mixture.

The process of mixing comes in many possible ways. A concrete color pigment comes in many forms such as the granule, liquid and the powder. The powdered one will be placed in a bag called disintegrating bag so that it will be easily dissolved together with the mixture. It is a great many people working in this field, because it minimizes the chances of inhaling the powder, which is not good for the health.

Black is the most common among all the colors used in making the material dark. It is used to make a shade of gray to a bold black. This is usually used for roadways, driveways, parking lots and runways, for it can easily cover the stains that created by the oil. It can easily adsorb heat and lessen the occurrence of ice.

This pigment has two kinds, a carbon and iron oxide. Carbon produces a darker black, on the other hand an iron oxide produces a shade of gray. However, a carbon wears out that easily in time than the other type.

There are also pigments that are in liquid forms. It comes in a synthetic or natural form that will be measured by volume, just like the way paints are measured. It is added during the process of mixing the material. However, natural forms are only limited to earth tones. Synthetic forms on the other hand can create many shades or hue.

Sometimes it can cause some hue variations, like curing methods and different finishing. It is suggested that you should not use a liquid pigment because it can result to an uneven coloring finish. It is also suggested that you should use aggregates and water with salts. For they can cause a white powdery effect that is known as the efflorescence.

Mostly, a form of granulated one is mixed together with some dry to a wet system of metering. It gives a cheaper technique to make a liquid. There are many concrete businesses that will purchase granulated forms that will be mixed with water. They will put it in a tank and sooner they will distribute it to the mixing truck. This type can cost a little cheaper because it is lighter than the liquid.

There are also techniques that you need to know. Staining is one, it can be done after the mixture has set and cured. The rubbed stain is a technique that refers to the rubbing of fine powdered color into the texture. After obtaining the right shade, you will going to apply a topical sealer to bond the colouring on the surface. The resist technique, on the other hand, is the mixing of hue with some sealant and brushing it. These two techniques will need to have a topical solution to be applied again over time.

A technique called color wash is a strategy similar to painting. You will mix a coloring paint in a water based. If you have achieved your desired shade. Brush it with a sealant. And put a final coat of sealant after the first coat had dried to attain the one you desired.
