Preparing Your Kids For Life With Sound Parenting

By Beth Casas

With all the parenting advice there is on the net, it's a wonder everybody is not confused. Being able to learn from people who have good knowledge to pass around makes it worth while. But since you're a parent, then your time is limited which can present challenges. As you read the following advice on parenting, see how much it applies to your home situation.

When you have teenagers, it can feel like you're always in the throes of negotiations. You know what they're doing because you did the same thing as all kids when growing up. Just in case, if you are a naturally strong personality (authority), then consider moving more to displaying authoritarian behavior which is different. Sometimes it's not so much that they want to be difficult or disobedient, but there's a conflict of some kind, so just ask them what they feel is a good solution, and then listen and go from there.

One of the most important needs children have is to know they are unconditionally accepted.

Avoid doing this to your teens in front of their friends, but they have to feel loved, too. Do what is appropriate with teens in terms of what matters with them which is always being cool.

Parents are often the ones whom teens want to see them doing well in things like sports or anything they may be doing. In addition to seeking approval from you, they want the same from other kids at school. What they're doing is the same things we did when young, they're trying to feel good about themselves and are looking for social approval. All parents are busy working and running the household, but you really need to realize what's happening and devote time and attention. The tips we have been talking about are very solid and reliable and will help. Don't get discourage if you're single because that's the norm these days, it seems. You can find tons of resources for single parents and parenting online.
