Importance Of Passing Singapore's National Exams With Excellent Scores

By Cindy Ingram

In Singapore, the PSLE or Primary School Leaving Examination and GCE Examinations are considered as the pillars of the national examination systems in the country. These examinations assess students' ability, achievement, and examination results, respectively. The result of the exam will determine a student's readiness to move from one level of education to another. Aside from educational advancement, these common certifications could also mean having access to employment opportunities in government and multi-national companies in the country.

Students who get the highest scores in PSLE and GCE exams will have more options that are beneficial for their educational advancement than those who pass the exams with average scores. For instance, students who topped PLSE can apply for acceleration programs and those who got the highest scores in GCE exams can apply for a scholarship grant in a public university or abroad.

For an incoming secondary student to to get eligible for an acceleration program, he or she shouldn't only rank on top of PSLE exam but should also enroll in a learning institution that offers Integrated Programme. Students that are enrolled in an IP school can skip taking O-level examinations and proceed to Junior College. Students in an IP school can choose to take GCE A-level examinations, International Baccalaureate, or an equivalent examination when they reach the last year of secondary education. The kind of examination these students will choose depends on the type of IP schools they are enrolled in.

In 2004 the year IP program is implemented, three schools in Singapore became IP schools. These are Hwa Chong families of Schools, National Junior College, and Anglo-Chinese School. Today, there are more than ten IP schools in the country.

Those who are planning to apply for a scholarship grant in one of the public universities in the country or abroad should make sure to pass the GCE A-level examinations with excellent scores. To give students in non-IP programs the chance to apply for a university scholarship, the PSC or Public Service Commission gives those who passed the GCE O-level exams with excellent scores an application form for the scholarship grants the PSC is offering.

[[Students who want to get the said advantages should find a reliable tuition agency in Singapore that specializes in Singapore-Cambridge GCE exams. A student who wants to pursue a business course, for instance, may register in Jc econs tuition since having undertaken the Economics subject is one of the entry requirements for GCE Advanced level. Institutions that offer Economics Tuition in Singapore will be able to prepare for the GCE exams as they will be given relevant lessons and examination practice.]]

When choosing an institution that offers Econs tuition, ask if it has a complete copy of the previous GCE examinations with the detailed answers. The institution should also be aware of the syllabus for the current school year since the past examinations may not always reflect the lessons covered in the current curriculum.
