Get To Know The Famous Pittsburgh Ballet Theater

Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, established by Mr. Nicholas Petrov back in 1969, today is highly appreciated theater. Mr. Petrov was the first artistic director, and managed everything for seven years, together with the first Board Chair, Mrs. Loti Falk. In 1970, they offered their first subscription season.

PBT became one of the most exciting dancing theaters in the United States. In only few years, their characteristic style and dancing excellence and incredible passion made them so popular that their subscriber base was constantly growing. From their first opening with the famous performance of The Nutcracker, they really came a long way.

Their first dancing school was established back in 1979, with Mr. Patrick Franz as an artistic director and with Mr. Anthony Bryan as a chairman of the board. Popular Intensive Summer program started the next year, and today it is widely appreciated.

When Mrs. Patricia Wilde became an artistic director in 1982, the new style was born. Her infinite energy and innovative new techniques made her the most appreciated artistic director of the ensemble. Clear movement and crystal clear vision of style is visible in all 32 works she installed during her tenure.

With more than fifty performances yearly, PBT is really respectable company. They have launched Schenley program, primarily designed for High school students. Education is their most important interest, and the best proof for this is that great number of their former students perform as leading dancers in numerous respectable theaters.

In 2012, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater presented the premiere of A Streetcar Named desire, by John Neumeir. This professional company is community based. They perform both modern and traditional pieces through their innovative approach, elegant style and exquisite technique that is highly appreciated.

The swan Lake by P.I.Tchaikovsky is famous all over the world. Indescribable elegance, exquisite technique, emotions and drama, everything is gathered in one place, wrapped in amazing music and dreamy costumes. Astonishing performance, technically perfect, but new and exciting, is absolutely overwhelming experience. The premiere will take place in February next year.

PBT organizes different interesting events. This season you can attend an evening of beer and dance, or maybe take a look at exciting works presented by famous choreographer Twyla Tharp. This unusual and exciting event will certainly fulfill your expectations and charm you. Nine Sinatra songs are also something you wouldn't want to miss.

The Nutcracker is something really special. This really is the most exciting season production, with more than 150 performers and endless number of fabulous costumes. Amazing choreography and always expected dancing excellence make it the most expecting event of this season, both for professional dancers and for their loyal audience. The opening of a season takes place in December.

In season 2013 to 2014, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater is presenting their favorite part, the Nutcracker. Their fans and admirers will also be able to see their Don Quixote as well as the famous Swan Lake. The theater tours locally and nationally, and also internationally. This includes Canada, Taiwan, California and numerous other countries. People all over the world appreciate the real quality.
