Award Winning Political Fiction Books 2017

By Lisa Morgan

Newspaper columns and magazines appear to steal the limelight by making commentaries on politics. However, their impact is seasonal compared to the classic political fiction books 2017. The novels handle different subjects with such depth that it is awe inspiring. The authors are also of diverse backgrounds which gives readers an opportunity to view politics from different angles.

1984 is a strange leader in this category considering that it was penned by George Orwell in 1949. It is an imagination of a future that seems to have caught up with humanity. He imagines a future where the world is under the control of super powers and where newspeaks and thoughtcrime are common place. The reality for this novel came to fore with the introduction of Macintosh by Apple in 1984. It would be also form the subject of 2007 Democratic primaries.

All the Kings Men is the work of Robert Warren that is also decades old. His subject is Willie Stark, a Louisiana politician who rises and falls through the pages. This is a story of sacrifices made by politicians and an interrogation of whether their hopes are realized. This literary masterpiece won the Pulitzer Prize for its exemplary narration.

What engine runs the world and who controls it? Rand Ayn creates a character who seems to have an answer to this question in his book Atlas Shrugged. Rand is a confessed capitalist apologia with other of his titles being a clear testimony. It has been rated second among the most influential books in America. Conservatives love the title because of its libertarian inclination.

Wars, military and politics are difficult to separate. For Joseph Heller, these are subjects that can be ridiculed in a satire title Catch-22. Being his first novel, the author has done a tremendous job. He is also credited with introducing a new phrase to the existing lexicon. Peruse through the pages and enjoy the narrative prowess that does not sound anything like a first novel.

Golding William is not an author who needs introduction. The Lord of Flies is a naturally selling title that approaches politics from a philosophical point of view. He explores the idea of civilization and whether it gets as deep as the soul. In his assessment, the soul never gets civilized considering what it can do when law and order are suspended. The results are dumbfounding.

To Kill a Mocking Bird is an exciting read by Harper Lee. It explores the issue of politics and how it intertwines with race and class. The narrative is set in the 30s in Deep South. It is outstanding in several fronts, including the use of a child character who is only 8 years and the manner in which the author creates enduring and endearing characters. It is a battle of perseverance and justice against hypocrisy and prejudice.

Adults in the Room is a piece of work penned by Yanis Varoufakis, a socialist who rose to become the prime minister in 2015. As an economist lecturer, he thought that he had a solution to Greek financial crisis that did not include austerity. He will realize that these are just illusions. Something else controls the world.
