How To Make Easy Accommodations For ADHD

By Kimberly Hamilton

People with sensitive hyperactivity disorder face a big challenge to concentrate especially when they undertake the same task with individuals who are not suffering from this condition. However, it is crucial to have room for them to participate in everything that normal people do. However, regardless of whether it is in schools or workplaces accommodations for ADHD individuals call for the following valuable tips.

Keep things simple: every complex task can be divided into small sections which can be handled separately. Since these people are likely to get distracted when they have many things to do at the same time, it is sensible to simplify the task to make it easy for them to understand. Large assignments, therefore, are not suitable for people suffering from this condition.

Secondly, make instructions easy to understand. If you want your work to be done without many mistakes, then make sure that each person can understand the guidelines. One technique to achieve this is to ensure that they are short and to the point by avoiding many irrelevant sentences which could make the person look to focus on the main subject.

Minimize auditory destruction: if you are aware that the person has this disorder, it would be irrational in you locate their office or the class in a noisy environment. Also, to reduce noise destruction using sound absorption panels can be a great deal. This will enable them to concentrate on what is being tough in case they are students.

Reduce visual disturbance: anything that catches the eye of a person causes the visual distraction. People with problems with paying attention are likely to be attracted to anything that moves or even shiny things that look appealing or distinct from others, for that reason, ensure that their area of work is enclosed and free from many unnecessary moving objects.

Write the instructions: do not just write but write bigger letters in different colors which can easily be recognized. This is not only meant to enhance their visibility but also to ensure that the instructions remain in the memory of the person. You should be aware that this condition affects the mind and therefore making memory part of the brain, less efficient.

Sensitize people: there is a need to educate people concerning this disability s that they can relate well to these people in the society. For example, if people know that noise destructs a person they will reduce personal conversation whenever they are close to anyone with this disability. Also, they will avoid actions that may catch the eye of the individual in a workplace.

It therefore not only the obligation of the managers or the teachers to look for ways of accommodating the disabled; every individual should look for means to keep these people comfortable and relaxed both at home and in workplaces. However, the informed should teach the society and make them aware of the things that could have a negative impact on the affected instead of depending on gadgets to minimize distractions.
