"You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star." - Nietzsche
Go to the deepest darkest place you can permit yourself to be and see if you can find a little light up in the top right corner?
There it is...joy. But how could joy possibly exist in such a horrible moment? How could joy not be completely snuffed out by all of the darkness in that time? For a long time in my own life, I didn't understand this idea. For a long time I thought it was the presence of resilience or something else. But what I realized as that my joy could never be snuffed out, and even in the darkest of times, I could illuminate the world.
I can recollect how it felt in that moment. Everything was totally black. The darkest black you could even imagine. If you have ever seen a black table that has been lacquered thousands of times, the depths appear never-ending. This situation and time in my life was this similar type of black and it was as thick is molasses. It was horrifying.
Despite how dark it was, there was always light present. I just wasn't looking for it.
It will be hard for you to return to these places...those moments that you have buried deep within so no one could ever see them. But we all know they exist. We all know that one day they will eventually bubble up to the surface no matter how far we have tried to run from them. But that's no way to live life. That's not how you're supposed to have to go throughout this world.
The only difference between going to these places on your own and having them surprise you in life is the amount of light you bring to a situation. When you head straight into your deepest fears, you bring a bright light with you and illuminate situations that have hurt you in the past.
Into the depths we dive.
We must be the light.
