The Frying Pan Of Happiness

By Evan Sanders

Sizzle...sizzle...sizzle.

Somethings cooking on that pan.

If you took the time to ask 100 different people what their main goal in life was, you would probably get a mass majority giving you an answer relating to happiness.

But what does it actually mean to live a happy life? How do we create a happy life on such an emotion that's as momentary as any other emotion in the book? I mean, in theory this sounds like a really great idea...but how is it actually done?

No one really knows. But they do know this - when you are happy you are just happy.

Every single time we go through a negative emotion we find ourselves trying to get back to being "happy" as quickly as possible. But are we really happy? Are we actually moving forward with our life in a positive direction or are we just ignoring what's actually there? I would say the latter is probably more true.

When you try to stuff everything under the rug you are putting yourself in an incredibly dangerous place. You are neglecting the things that you actually have to deal with and when life gets really difficult, those neglected pieces of your life have a way of sneaking out and kicking your butt.

Down. Down. Down to the bottom of the ladder.

Bang. Knocked out. In pain. Life is miserable.

So what can you do to avoid this?

Allow for there to be some chaos and madness in your life. Allow for some of the unexpected to come about and head into the dark parts of your heart where you know you are storing neglected emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Get close to the "frying pan." Get close enough to those dark places to feel them and experience them but stay far enough away so you don't get completely overwhelmed. When you can heal yourself in this manner you end up actually dealing with what your heart has been asking you to deal with all along.

If you do this, you will heal yourself.

A little bit of chaos and some madness are good things to have around. They bring out some energy in you and can help you rather than hurt you.

It's not only the light that can create amazing things. You can create incredible art through the darkness as well. But you have to be willing to go there first. You have to be willing to enter into the places of your heart that scare you and challenge you in the toughest of ways. There are brilliant things that can be created from that place.

Be brave enough to do this.

Maybe we should not be searching for happiness. Maybe we should be seeking to dive inside ourselves as much as possible and come to places of understanding and compassion. When we are open to all things then anything can happen.

Give it a shot. It could change everything.
