One major problem that's been going on in many countries around the world since essentially the dawn of civilization is the over-incarceration of criminals. People will be arrested too often or else kept in jail for too long, and there are many problems that arise that are a direct effect of this going on. It's going to take serious social justice reform to fix all of the problems that our society currently still faces, but if enough people with the right ideas in mind join forces, and if enough generations work at it for long enough, it is something that can be done.
A big problem in the world that has always existed and unfortunately might always be there to some degree in certain individuals is racism. When that way of thinking is allowed to infiltrate police forces, it can lead to serious problems that result in people of certain races, such as black people, being treated overly harshly by police and arrested more often even though they don't commit more crimes. This is one of the major problems that is plaguing society right now, and more in-depth media coverage of it is allowing more people to see it, become conscious of it, and realize that something must be done otherwise it will just keep going on indefinitely.
There have been a great many protests in the world that have helped fix big problems. One of the reasons why they work so well is that they draw attention to the issues at hand. Otherwise, people might just not notice what is going on.
It might help to fully understand what social justice is before proceeding any further since you'll have a hard time grasping the more in-depth concepts if you don't learn the basics. All you need to know is that it's a concept of fair relations. Those relations include both individuals and society as a whole.
When wealth is not distributed fairly, people can have a much harder time pursuing happiness and taking care of their family. What often happens is a very small group of people wind up with most of the money. In order for things to be fair, the wealth has to be distributed a little bit more evenly, otherwise, there will always be those who are poor and can't afford to feed their children a good meal, leading to countless more generations of poverty down the line.
There are some who might not be sure what opportunity for personal activity means or how important it is. The thing that makes it so cardinal to the issue is that if people aren't treated fairly by society, they can't do the things they want to do. This is a major injustice.
Some people don't feel like they can ever achieve a higher station in life. For some folks, this is tragically true due to the fact that they live in an area where they will not be able to find a good job to support themselves, and particularly if they have a family, they certainly can't afford to go back to school in order to get a better-paying job. Those are cases where there is an utter lacking of social mobility.
If you are constantly worried that you're going to go broke or hungry, it's impossible to be happy. It's also very hard to make good decisions. That's why having safety nets for these people is so important.
