Essential Details About Vietnam Vets Donations

By William Fox

Vietnam veterans are the soldiers who served in the allied forces of United States during the Vietnam or Second Indochina war. This includes those who were stationed in the country of Vietnam as well as those who were not. The allied forces of United States lost the war and heavy casualties during these battles had been suffered.

This is why there are a lot of veterans who are now disabled and are not able to make a proper living after being discharged from service. Some are even experiencing post traumatic stress disorder which makes it harder for them to readjust to society. That is why it is important to give Vietnam vets donation in any way possible.

Almost fifty thousand veterans does not have any place they can call home and sleeps either on the street or in common houses dedicated to them. This is because they do not have a family of their own anymore or are estranged with theirs. Some reasons of them being estranged is because of their problems to readjust to society.

One of the reasons of their difficulties is experiencing PTSD where one in every five vets are currently suffering from. This mental disorder is caused by the traumatic event they experienced such as the mentioned war. Symptoms include having disturbing feelings, dreams, or thoughts related with the causing traumatic event.

Another problem is the disability that they got during their time serving for the armed forces making their ability to make a living difficult. The most common disability among them is being dismembered in one or more limbs so using a prosthetic or wheelchairs is required for some of them to move around. It is why vet centers have been established in assisting them.

Services are given by the government for them including benefits like cash compensations if they were deemed eligible. One of the factors of eligibility is if the injuries they had received, either mental or physical, is because of their war service. But these are not enough specially those who are not eligible enough that is why donations are highly needed.

Donations may come in various forms, either financially or by kind, which is given to dedicated organizations for this cause. The donations are not meant only for the veteran soldier but also for those that are living together with them. Examples are the following, small furniture, books, electronic devices, toys, household items and furniture.

Events are also being organized to raise funds for helping them and in providing services that they need. These include funds for medical treatment for their injuries and in buying medical equipment or devices like prosthetic and wheelchairs. These events are also a way for them to see their former compatriots and be updated on how each one of them is now.

So it is important for people to reach out a helping hand to those who had suffered the effects of wars specially the ones who have no one with them anymore. Donating is only a part of this and there are other ways you can assist them. The government must also do their part to provide benefits to those who really need them.
